Eamonn Holmes believes Gary Lineker is “goading” the BBC with his latest political statement.
The Match of the Day star took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a comment calling for Israel to be banned from international football.
The tweet was from the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic & Cultural Boycott of Israel, demanding sports bodies taken an “urgent stance on Israel’s grave violation of human rights”.
During a discussion with Dawn Neesom, Isabel Webster and Nicola McLean on GB News, Eamonn Holmes shared his view on the matter.

“I’m not sure why he feels the need to keep doing things like this”, said Holmes.
“I don’t know the answer to this when it comes against Russia taking part in international events, I don’t know if he [Lineker] has either.”

Journalist Dawn Neesom waded in to criticise Lineker for not commenting on Hamas’s terror attacks in Israel on October 7.
“This is between Gary Lineker and the BBC”, she said.
“I’m not exactly sure what his agreement with the BBC is, but it seems you can’t make political comments and it applies to people like Carol Vorderman.
“Gary Lineker seems to get away with it. This is about football as well, so it is an influential area for him.
“The hypocrisy annoys me. This is Gary Lineker who went to Qatar for the World Cup, where 6000 people died building those stadiums.
“He has no problem taking the money from a regime where human rights issues are prevalent, but he feels okay criticising Israel.”
She went on to question whether Lineker is “bringing the BBC into disrepute” as a result of his actions.
Holmes added: “It’s almost as if he’s goading the BBC into sacking him.”
A BBC source told The Telegraph: “We aren’t going to give a commentary on individuals or individual tweets.”
