Matthew Macfadyen has paid tribute to both his “actual wife” and his “on-screen wives” in a sweet speech after he received an Emmy award.
He accepted the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday evening.
When he took to the stage to accept the gong, he paid tribute to his co-stars Sarah Snook and Nicholas Braun, before thanking his “actual wife” Keeley Hawes whom he described as his “love and best friend”.
He said: “Thank you so much to the TV academy and the entire Succession family. Directors, writers, producers, cast and crew, our peerless crew every department, always brilliant, often unsung.

Acting prizes for Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen were among six wins for Succession.
The series follows the life of the Roy family, who are owners of the global media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar RoyCo, as they fight for control of the company whilst uncertain about the health of the leader of their family.
Nicholas Braun, his co-star, was also nominated in the category, as were two other actors from the show, Alan Ruck and Alexander Skarsgard, and four actors from The White Lotus: F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli, Theo James and Will Sharpe.
Macfadyen’s “actual wife” Keeley Hawes is no stranger to showbiz herself and has appeared on It’s A Sin, Finding Alice and Bodyguard.

She also played Zoe Reynolds in the spy drama Spooks, which is where she met her now-husband Macfadyen.
She went on to tie the knot in November 2004 and they share two children.
She told The Telegraph in 2010: “I love being married to Matthew. And I know Matthew loves being married too. It ties everything up and it’s a statement to each other and to the world.
“Marriage and being a mother are absolutely crucial to my happiness and my life.”
